Don't judge a book...

Dear Everyone,

At Sylvie's last night for dinner (fab Lebanese...waaah, Sylvie, you're a star!) with Sylvia and dear Marian when Sylvie asked if I'd had the time to see the Susan Boyle link on youtubes she'd sent me. Er...no, and who is this Susan Boyle, I replied. 'It's impossible not to know her!' cried Sylvie, 'she's taken UK by storm...and it just goes to show how mean people are and that one should never judge a book by its cover...never!' So, we gathered around the laptop, hit google and there we ended up the four of us, all with tears in our eyes...good for you, Susan!!

While we're on the subject, here are two others. We are cruel, we human beings. Just because a person doesn't have the body of a Spice Girl or the smouldering looks of Robbie Williams or George Michael we laugh, we stab fun, we remain incredulous at the audacity and very idea that this 'unbeautiful' person could possibly have any talent. Susan pushing 47, dowdy and never been kissed, rounded generously around the corners and hair like a bird's nest couldn't possibly be worth liustening to. The audience almost jeer, one girl horribly rolls her eyes at the very thought...well, ha! Cowell and the rest of the aspersion-casting public got their pipes well and truely stuffed. Susan, I think you're wonderful - and you made the four of us cry into our falafels.

SMS message to Lidia: who was the Roumanian guy who stunned Spain's talent show in the same kind of way.... reply this morning at 5h30 (either she was up early or couldn't sleep): "Costel Busuioc". Here he is singing Donna E Mobile There is a difference though - Costel has had a re-look and is not bad really - a little pudsy with dodgy hair, but presentable. Which brings me to Paul Potts who really broke my heart and gave me goose pimples - round face, broken teeth, slightly boss-eyed - the most unlikely candidate of the three. Just goes to show, ladies and gents, looks can be deceiving.
