Stag Parties in Hungary, by Julien

budapestHi Everybody,

Today is my LAST day teaching here and Julien is my final victim. He has been very prolific these last few days with two previous posts. Today, as a parting shot, he has had to analyse an article in Courrier International and write a summary in English for blogging and debating. You can find the original article here. Although this article does not refer to France, maybe stag parties will soon hit Paris as they have Prague, Amsterdam and now Budapest...

Budapest_Parlament_2"This article is about stag parties in Hungary. More people, generally the English, go to Hungary to have a party. The capital, Budapest, attracts a lot of tourists who want to have stag parties. The beer is cheap, the girls are pretty, the nightclubs are near the pubs - all in the centre of town.

Globally, Budapest, has become the party capital. Most people get drunk, hooligans look for girls and have parties all night before their wedding. Generally, they finish up in hospital in an alcohol-induced coma or at the police station after a fight - a nice black eye for the Big Day! Sometimes, they fail to arrive at the wedding at all...

This kind of tourism gives a very bad image of the English to people who see such badly-behaved tourists.

cartoon_arrestAll this causes a lot of abuse: taxi drivers, for example, overcharge you and nightclubs make a big profit from tourism. It's not a good image of Budapest. Hungary is a wonderful country with its history and architecture. I would prefer to visit its monuments."

I was in Budapest many years ago and liked the vitality of the city. People love to party, whether it is a stag party or not and their food and drink is delicious, however fattening.<br /> Did YOU get drunk at that party?.. Haha

Julien.. you are fabulous, I meant your English is.. Did you really go to Budapest for a stag party, or you just read about it and found it funny? Is there such a custom in France?
