Mont St. Michel by Sylvaine
Friday...last day of the week, and it begins with Sylvaine who has chosen Mont St. Michel in her beloved Brittany as the subject for her post.
"The Mont St Michel, a wonderful island of rock, is based at the limit of Normandy and Brittany in the north of France. At the beginning, in the year 709, it was only a sanctuary dedicated to the archangel St Michel. Later, an abbey was gradually built between the XI-XVI centuries which occupies almost the whole rock. Only 50 people live on the island all the year round.
You can see the Mont St Michel on the Bayeux Tapestry, which shows the battle of Hastings. You should see that, too. It is wonderful!
The high tides of Mont St Michel attract a lot of people throughout the year. There's a saying: "qu’elle revient à la vitesse d’un cheval au galop". It is an island for only 53 days a year, due to its tides of Equinox.
If you decide to spend a little time on Mont St Michel, don't forget to visit La Mère Poulard to taste her famous omelettes and very good cakes. My brain works like this: Mont St Michel - high tides - Mère Poulard's omelettes. That, for me, is Mont St Michel!"
Bravo Sylvaine!
